Horns
(and clarinet)

New Horn (picture coming soon)!
"Hanns Hainlein" Long Trumpet (Nuremburg, 1632)
I made this horn at the natural trumpetmaking workshop in Bloomington Indiana, July-August 2007,
under the direction Robert BarclayRichard Serphinoff, and Michael Munkwitz

Marcinkiewicz SC Four X Bb Shepherd's Crook Trumpet
Acquired in October 2006.  What a fabulous horn!
Sound Clip:  Halsey Stevens Sonata, 1st movement (recorded November 2006)

Bach Stradivarius Model 72*/43
This is an older horn, an unusual model with a very nice tone. This horn, originally my dad's, was bought in 1976. The gold trim was put on by me a a while back.  I think it gives the horn a nice look.
Sound Clip:  Corelli Sonata VII (arr. Fitzgerald) Prelude (recorded late 2005)

Bach Stradivarius C Model 239/25S
I found this horn at Baltimore Brass for $1150.  I put a Blackburn tuning slide and leadpipe on it to warm up the tone.  This is the most in tune Bach C I have ever played.  It is as ugly a trumpet you can find but man does it play well.

Bach Stradivarius Eb/D Model 239
I bought this horn about a year ago on eBay for $900.  It originally belonged to Manny Laureano of the Minnesota Orchestra.  It took me a while to get the intonation to be reasonable but with the Monette E3 mouthpiece and the heavy valve cap it plays great.  It has an unusually warm tone for an Eb but is still a great solo horn.  I use it for solos in Eb and orchestral parts in D.
Sound Clip:  Neruda Concerto, movement 1 (recorded June 2006)

Kanstul Custom A/Bb Piccolo
I bought this at Chuck Levin's in Maryland.  I have yet to find a horn with a sweeter tone or better intonation (except maybe that Blackburn pic at NTC).  I use it for most wedding music and some solos.

Weril Bb Cornet

I got this horn at Baltimore Brass for $350 (with case and an old Conn deep cup mouthpiece).  Altogether, a tremendous bargain -- the fit and finish are great, the intonation is pretty good and the slides work effortlessly, and the sound seems excellent.

Sound clip
Prelude to Arban's Carnival of Venice (note this is a large file, and it will probably take a while to buffer before it plays properly)

Lindell (Beater)
I got my beater for $110 at Atomic music.  It has good range for a old band horn.  I scratched the laquer off of it to give it a better look.  I use it for jazz.

Selmer Signet 100 Clarinet
Vintage 1960's Selmer clarinet.  I found it on ebay for $117.  Little did I know that it was actually worth a lot more.  When I first saw it, I thought it was two years old.  There are no cracks in the wood and the keys are perfect.  It has incredible tone in all registers and very good response.  All together a great bargain on a great instrument.

Slide Whistle
I just couldn't resist.  It's so...yellow.

Mouthpieces
All of them minus a few under my bed
